Dozens of people are still missing after a ferry with several 250 people on board sunk in a river in southern Bangladesh on early Tuesday, according to the police say.

That accident took place Meghna River in the Munshiganj district’s Gojaria upazila in Bangladesh and about 33 people dead and scores missing.

And that accident occurred around 2:30am on Tuesday after an oil tanker rammed into it said Munshiganj’s deputy commissioner.
According to a report, they say at least 50 people were saving after the accident occurred in the Meghna River, south-west of the capital Dhaka.

It’s very shocking but true Ferry accidents are common on Bangladesh’s huge river network and that’s why scores are killed every year.

Local police chief Mohammad Shahabuddin Khan told the AFP news agency that the death toll is likely to increase as more bodies are feared trapped in the interior.

According to a local media report the ferry was traveling to Dhaka from the Shariatpur district.

Mainly ferry accidents occurred in Bangladesh is blamed on poor security principles and excess numbers of passengers.

And last April, as minimum 31 people killed also after ferry accidents also in June 2010 about a dozen people were died and in November 2009, at least 118 people died in two ferry accidents in a week.
